CIPTA AWARD 2010 For Indonesia's Best Green Destinations

Indonesia will for the first time select the country’s best green destinations that are aimed at sustainable tourism, to be awarded the Cipta Award 2010. Included are three categories, namely those under government supervision, those managed by the private sector (companies) and those organized by individuals or private organizations, said Firmansyah Rahim, Director General for Tourism Destination Development.

Nominees for destinations managed and supervised by the government, both at national or regional levels are: (1) The Ujung Kulon National Park in Banten, (2) the West Bali National Park in Bali, (3) the Iboi-Sabang Marine Park in Aceh, (4) the Tanjung Puting National Park in Central Kalimantan and (5) Tanah Lot, in Bali.

Nominees for destinations under private sector (companies) management are: (1) The Amanwana Resort, on Moyo Island in West Nusatenggara, (2) the Elephant Safari Park, in Gianyar (Bali), (3) the Bagus Agro Pelaga (Bali), (4) the Sari Ater Hot Springs in West Java, and (5) Pasir Mukti Bogor in West Java.,

While nominees for tourist destinations managed by individuals or private organizations are: (1) the Gili Trawangan Ecotourism in Lombok, West Nusatenggara, (2) the Rinjani Trek also on Lombok in West Nusatenggara , (3) the Turtle Tourism in Berau, East Kalimantan, (4) the Gitgit park in Buleleng and (5) the Sangeh park also in Bali.

A total of 89 destinations in 15 provinces were evaluated between 1 June through 31 July, resulting in a short list of 15 destinations, which will be assessed by a team of 7 judges through desk evaluation and site visits.

The Cipta Award 2010 presentations will be held on 28 October 2010 in Jakarta, awarded by Minister for Culture and Tourism, Jero Wacik.
